Health Guarantee

Before the puppy is born

A guarantee is only as good as the pairing behind it. Both parents of every litter are health tested before they are bred:

• OFA evaluations for hips and elbows.
• Eyes examined and certified clear.
• DNA testing for the genetic conditions known in the breed, including PRA and ICT-A.
• Temperament assessed — a sound mind matters as much as sound joints.

You are welcome to ask to see the parents' certifications before you apply. We would rather you asked.

What comes home with your puppy

• A veterinary examination confirming the puppy is healthy at the time of placement.
• Age-appropriate first vaccinations and worming, with dates recorded.
• A written health record to hand to your own veterinarian.
• Registration paperwork, on limited registration.
• A starter supply of the food the puppy is already eating, so you can transition gradually.

Your first week

Please have your own veterinarian examine the puppy within 72 hours of pick-up, and book the booster visit they recommend within the first week. That first independent exam is what starts your guarantee — it establishes the puppy arrived healthy, and it means anything found is documented straight away.

What the two-year guarantee covers

For two years from the date of birth, we guarantee your puppy against serious congenital or hereditary defects that materially affect their quality of life, diagnosed and documented by a licensed veterinarian.

If that happens, contact us as soon as the diagnosis is made and send us your veterinarian's written findings. We will discuss the options honestly with you — in most cases families want to keep the dog they love, and we work out a remedy that reflects that.

What it does not cover

So there are no surprises later, the guarantee does not extend to:

• Injury, accident, or trauma.
• Parasites, infections, and common puppy illnesses picked up after placement.
• Conditions caused or worsened by inadequate veterinary care, poor nutrition, over-exercise while growing, or neglect.
• Conditions arising from spaying or neutering earlier than 12 months, which is why our timing requirement exists.
• Minor faults that do not affect the dog's health or quality of life, such as bite, coat, or conformation points.
• Routine veterinary costs, which are yours from the day the puppy comes home.

What we ask of you

• Keep up routine veterinary care and vaccinations.
• Feed a high-quality diet appropriate to a growing large-breed dog.
• Protect growing joints — no forced running or repetitive high-impact exercise while the puppy is still developing.
• Spay or neuter between 12 and 18 months.
• Keep your records. A claim needs a paper trail.

The part that never expires

Separately from the two-year guarantee, our commitment to the dog itself has no end date. If at any point in your dog's life — year two or year twelve — you cannot keep them, they come back to us. No shelter, no rehoming to a stranger, no questions that make you feel judged. Every dog we breed has a place to come back to.

Making a claim

Email info@brooksgoldenretrieverpuppies.com with your puppy's name, your veterinarian's written diagnosis, and the supporting records. We will respond quickly. We would always rather hear from you early than find out late.
